The fire detection unit allows you to extend its capabilities through the use of USB dongles. These USB dongles are called PAK, which stands for Panel Activation Key. The use of the PAK will activate additional high-end functionality in the panel. Depending on the functionality required, separate and multiple PAKs can be used to enable these features. Features such as the number of nodes/loops, the detector protocol supported, the TCP/IP communication protocol used for remote monitoring, communication to management software such as BACnet or Modbus, etc., can be enabled using PAKs. The PAK is tied to the serial number of the control unit, but must not remain connected to the control unit. It can be removed once the PAK is installed and the function is enabled in the panel. It is therefore recommended that the PAK always remain close to the plant, for example when performing recovery functions or reinstallations.
