Elsner expands its range: introducing Windancer basic W, the new wind sensor for building automation

Elsner Elektronik continues to invest in automatic building protection and presents Windancer basic W, a new wind sensor designed for those looking for a simple, reliable and compact solution for monitoring wind speed in building automation systems.

With this novelty, the German manufacturer complements its full weather stations (such as the well-known Windancer 2.0, equipped with anemometer, rain sensor, brightness and temperature sensors) with a range dedicated exclusively to wind measurement: essential, quick to install and designed for those who need "just" a reliable wind alarm system to protect awnings, roller shutters, pergolas and other outdoor elements.

Two models, two integration modes

Windancer basic W is available in two variants, designed to suit different installation needs.

Windancer basic W GI

No. ELS_30169 – white | No. ELS_30205 – dark grey

This version is designed for simple, universal integration: the sensor detects wind speed and signals a wind alarm via a potential-free relay output (clean contact), making it compatible with any automation system, including non-KNX ones. The alarm threshold is set directly on the device via DIP switches, with no need for configuration software: a plug-and-play solution, ideal for projects requiring fast commissioning. The relay switches when the set threshold is exceeded and returns to rest as soon as the value drops back below the limit. It's the ideal choice when a simple wind alarm contact is needed to connect to a motor for awnings, roller shutters or pergolas, without the need for a communication bus. Available in white and dark grey finishes (the latter designed to match RAL 7016 anthracite and black window frames).

Windancer basic W KNX sec

The KNX sec variant, on the other hand, is designed for native integration into the KNX bus system. Thanks to the ETS application, the detected wind value can be used to control up to 4 switching outputs, each with its own threshold depending on the measured value: this makes it possible, for example, to trigger a first alarm at low wind speed and more drastic actions (such as fully closing sun protection) once subsequent thresholds are exceeded. The states can also be combined using AND and OR logic gates, allowing more elaborate protection scenarios, potentially integrating other parameters from the bus as well. The device supports KNX Data Secure for secure data transmission on the bus and is Smart Linking Ready, for guided and simplified configuration even without going through ETS in Smart Linking installations. Like all Elsner products, it is Made in Germany and available in white and dark grey finishes.

Both models sit alongside the higher-end Windancer 2.0 KNX sec and Windancer 2.0 GPS KNX sec ranges (full weather stations with cup anemometer, rain, brightness and temperature sensors) as a more compact alternative for those who only need wind monitoring without the other sensors.

Both models are available in a dark grey finish, designed to coordinate seamlessly with RAL 7016 anthracite and black window frames, as well as with grey roof windows in the NCS S 7500-N shade: a detail that matters for those who also care about the aesthetics of the installation, not just its functionality.
