Xtralis OSID provides reliable and cost-effective smoke detection for open spaces where fire detection presents unique challenges and where early warning is not always the priority. OSID also combines dual wavelength (IR and UV) rays with CMOS image detection. This technology is characterized by a high tolerance to vibrations and structural movements, and the OSID better distinguishes between smoke and environmental conditions than traditional linear detectors. OSID works both in the pitch dark and in the sunlight. An imager (receiver) can have up to 7 emitters and provides easy 3D coverage for the atria, etc. Installation and commissioning are quick and easy thanks to the flexible arrangement of the sphere and housing and the use of the laser alignment tool. Problem solving is simple thanks to the integrated memory and the OSID diagnostic SW package, both unique to this industry. In its simplest configuration, Xtralis' OSID uses an imager, a camera-like device with a large field of view and a wired or battery-powered emitter roughly aligned on the opposite wall within the protected area. The emitter sends both infrared and ultraviolet encoded light signals to the imager. If the reception of light is altered due to the presence of authentic smoke particles, the image player will go on an alarm. The innovative use of dual light frequencies in an open-path device allows OSID to discriminate between real smoke and other objects, including insects, steam, condensate and dust, thereby drastically reducing false alarms.
